আধুনিক যুগে বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তিতে মুসলিম নারীদের পদচারণ বেড়েছে। স্টেম এডুকেশন বা সায়েন্স, টেকনোলজি, ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং ও ম্যাথমেটিকস—এই চারটি বিষয়ে উল্লেখযোগ্য ভূমিকা পালন করছে তারা। বিশ্বের সাড়া-জাগানো আট মুসলিম নারী বিজ্ঞানীর সঙ্গে আমরা আজ পরিচিত হব। শিক্ষা ও গবেষণায় হিজাব ও ধর্মীয় অনুশাসন তাঁদের সাফল্যের পথে এগিয়ে যেতে প্রেরণা জুগিয়েছে।
হায়াত আল সিন্দি : মক্কায় জন্ম নেওয়া এই নারী একজন সৌদি বায়োটেকনোলজিস্ট। মধ্যপ্রাচ্যে এ বিষয়ে পিএইচডি ডিগ্রিধারী প্রথম নারী তিনি। জর্জ হোয়াইটসাইডসের বিখ্যাত গবেষণাগারে যোগ দিয়ে সবার নজর কাড়েন তিনি। উন্নয়নশীল দেশগুলোতে প্রযুক্তির সহজায়নে প্রতিষ্ঠিত ডায়াগনস্টিকস ফর অলের সহপ্রতিষ্ঠাতা তিনি। তা ছাড়া মর্যাদাপূর্ণ হার্ভার্ড এন্টারপ্রাইজ প্রতিযোগিতায় বিজয়ী হয়ে একটি প্রজেক্টের জন্য ম্যাসাচুসেটস ইনস্টিটিউট অব টেকনোলজি (এমআইটি) থেকে এক লাখ মার্কিন ডলার পুরস্কার লাভ করেন। পাশাপাশি বিল গেটস থেকেও আরো ১০ মিলিয়ন মার্কিন ডলার অর্থ সংগ্রহ করেন।
